The Clothesline Project for the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center and the Presidio of Monterey took place at the Tin Barn on the Presidio April 13. Captain Monica Maresh helped in decorating shirts with a message and image to display as awareness art against sexual violence.
The Clothesline Project started in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in 1990 to give survivors of sexual violence an opportunity to share how this taboo topic affected their life. The goal was to create a visual “in your face” display. Since then, the project has expanded to become a way for anyone to share a message about the impact of sexual violence and to support survivors.
